Evidence of use in field (earth marking, cracking, staining, shrinkage):

Surface insertion depth (into ground if apparent): There is a 150mm section at the bottom of the shaft that is lighter colour, so may indicate insertion, although see note below under Condition.

Finish (varnish, paint, oiled, unfinished etc): Unfinished.

Condition (cracked, paint peeling, woodwork, damage etc): Top of the shaft and cross beam are (presumably) original softwood.  Lower part of the shaft has been replaced with Oak as part of a repair.

Believed to commemorate Frederick Stanley SUDDS – suspect nametape is misspelled.
