This cross is within the Museum of the Welsh Soldier at Cardiff Castle.  It is in a display case which is engraved with “we will remember them”.  There are two poppy wreaths underneath and a plaque above which reads

“This plain wooden cross was erected over the grave of an unknown soldier of the welsh Regiment, killed in action in the Ypres Salient on a date unknown.  The cross was in due course replaced by a conventional military headstone and his name will be amongst those recorded on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres which commemorates the unknown dead of the Salient during the Great War of 1914-18.  Presented by the Royal British Legion, Whitchurch, Cardiff Branch”
