Location: Church of St Michael and All Angels, Felton, Northumberland, NE65 9HP

The unusual and historic church has an poignant commemorative stained glass window` Sacred to the memory of the men of Felton parish who fell in the European war 1944-1919 RIP`. Which is located on the right as you walk through the porch and nave doorway

Resting in the stone alcove of the window is a remembrance collection of 4 war grave crosses of local men who served in the First World War

Evidence of use in field. Yes, A number of post modifications that would have been used for use in the field are evident
Surface insertion depth: Appears that bottom of cross may have been removed and shorted
Finish Plain, with white paint text
Condition: Dry, weathered, with slight water staining at base, wood cracks and missing parts

Other information, notes and observations:
An impressive cross, which is now showing its age, that had taken time and care to construct. Chamfered edges on Pentagon and on centre and cross shaft.
There is an additional post support cross that has been screwed into the back of the original cross along with the remains of a wood post ( 40x40mm) , at the base of the centre shaft that could have used to support the cross into the ground ( only 120mm length of this left ). There is also a small top section of the left cross beam missing that must at one time been held in place as the nails are still in situ and it appears that the cross had been shorted in length.

A simple cross in good condition. Chamfered edges on end of cross beam and top of centre shaft. The GRU tags have been re tagged some time ago with different tacks the only original ones appear to be at the top.

Evidence of use in field. Yes, Tags look weathered and although not as much as the other crosses the bottom of the cross looks like it has been shortened
Surface insertion depth: None but again it appears that the bottom of cross may have been removed and shorted
Finish: Plain
Condition: Wood appears weathered and dry with some water staining at the end of the shafts

 

 

Other information, notes and observations:
Again a simple cross. It appears slightly better condition and appears better quality wood. The cross is given a central position in the window /Display maybe as it larger and that A Robson was awarded the Military Medal

Again a simple cross in a weathered and dry condition. More evident that the cross has been shortened as the bottom is not straight/ level
